The LtaD* Model
*Long Term Athletic Development
LTAD is a guideline, not an absolute mandate.
Children do not all develop at the same rate, & they may not always progress positively. Therefore, adjustments must be tailored according to their individual development in order to achieve the best results.
What it promotes
LTAD promotes multi-sport participation, youth health & well-being, & positive youth development.
Development
LTAD promotes the development of the whole child, with the child at the center & sports participation as the key.
When should kids Start?
LTAD needs to begin in early childhood to provide youth with the greatest opportunity for success.
Physical literacy
The concept of physical literacy helps youngsters value & take personal responsibility, thus leading to an appropriate level of proficiency.
Long term
Think of it like subjects in school –the later students learn the basic concepts, the more difficult it becomes to master the subject.
